Using the checker
Shinkansen Luggage is an independent informational guide. The calculator estimates a baggage category from the dimensions you enter. Measure the full exterior of your bag, including handles and wheels. We cannot guarantee that a particular item or reservation will be accepted by a railway operator.
Railway rules and bookings
Rules, train services and reservation availability can change. Always confirm the current requirements and your specific booking with the relevant JR operator before travelling. This site does not issue train tickets, reserve oversized baggage seats or act on behalf of JR.
External services
Links to JR Pass providers, activities, lockers and luggage forwarding services lead to independent third parties. Some links may be affiliate links, which may support this free guide if you make a purchase. Prices, availability and terms on those sites are set by their providers, not by Shinkansen Luggage.
Availability and responsibility
We aim to keep information useful and current, but provide the site and app as available without guaranteeing uninterrupted access or error-free content. Check important details with the official provider before making travel decisions. Nothing here limits rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Privacy
Your use of the website is also described in our privacy policy and cookie policy.
